Jao is an enchanting luxury tented camp situated in a private reserve bordering Botswana's Okavango Delta on a lushly wooded, oval~shaped island. The area comprises a wonderful variety of habitats, ranging from permanent waterways and lagoons on the one extreme to thick Kalahari soils on the other. The wildlife is dependant on the water levels in the area. The gorgeous lagoons are home to Hippo and Crocodile and the permanent waters lure generous numbers of waterfowl. These unforgettable sights can be viewed from a silent mokoro gliding through the calm waters. During certain seasons the waters subside and enormous open plains make for an impressive scene. Sightings of Lion, Cheetah and Leopard are abundant while Tsessebe, Red Lechwe, Zebra and Wildebeest dot the flood plains.
The whole of Jao is raised on wooden decks above the lush palms below and is beneath a dense canopy of ancient indigenous trees. Each room has a magnificent view and a "sala" for midday siestas during warm, sultry African afternoons. Evenings can be spent dining under the stars of an expansive night sky in an outdoor “kgotla”.
